5/22/2024 We left Shearwater and headed up the Finlayson Channel towards Wright Sound. We have a week until we are scheduled to be in Prince Rupert. We also have a little time to kill as we wait for Kinship to get new batteries and catch up to us.
St. Florian and Second Verse stopped in Bottleneck Inlet for the night on 5/22/2023. This is an outstanding anchorage with a nice flat, muddy bottom. The entrance is very narrow and hard to see until you are lined up and looking straight at it. This anchorage is relatively shallow and we were able to find ample room to anchor in only about thirty feet. It is very protected and we had a wonderfully calm night. We did spot two black bears at dusk as we left Second Verse after dinner.
There is a saying that cruising is doing boat projects in exotic places. Brad did some water-maker maintenance while we were in Bottleneck.
5/23/2024 Butedale was our next stop. Butedale is the site of an historic cannery. It was purchased by a developer in 2013, but there is not much evidence of progress on anything. We tied up to the private floats at the site. It rained all day long, which made it unappealing to think about getting off the boat and wandering about this construction site. This site is also open to the channel and so was a bit bumpy.
5/24/2024 We decided to backtrack a bit today as we have some extra time while we wait for Kinship to catch back up after their battery replacement. We went back an hour south to Khutze Inlet. This inlet is part of the Khutze Conservatory covering 85,000 acres of old growth forests and scenic mountains that are important to grizzly bears and other wildlife. This is a stunning location and I am very glad we made this stop.
