9/9/2024 - 9/20/2024 Vince’s sister, Teri flew into Campbell River for a ten day visit.

Suzy, Vince, Marya, Teri, and Brad on Legacy

9/9/2024 We headed north towards Campbell River to pick up Vince’s sister, Teri. We spent a very nice night anchored in Tribune Bay on Hornby Island. We tried this bay with Kinship and Second Verse earlier this summer but the wind and swell were all wrong for this south-facing bay so we didn’t stay. This time weather cooperated and the bay gave us great protection from a northerly wind. We were in to Campbell River in time to meet Teri. Campbell River has an amazing grocery store so we stocked up on fresh veggies and headed off for Desolation Sound.

9/11/2024 Walsh Cove on the Waddington Channel is one of our favorite spots. We arrived to find only one other boat in the entire cove. This gave us our choice of stern-tie spots. Conditions were perfect for Legacy’s first ever stern-tie, very calm and lots of space. I have never seen this cove empty!

Teri learned to drive the dinghy

Vince enjoyed being driven around

Walsh has some pictographs on the cove walls. Is this a fish? Or whale?

We invented a new game in Walsh Cove called “Where is Mabel”. She stayed on board Legacy while we had dinner on St. Florian. She could not see us through the tinted windows, but she could definitely hear us and smell dinner. Mabel did not enjoy this game.

Can you find Mabel in these four pictures?

9/13/2024 Rain is predicted for the next day so we have opted to explore a spot with a dock. This seemed to be a good time to visit Refuge Cove on West Redonda Island, a place we have not been before. This spot is very popular during boating season as a place to get water and food. Being shoulder season, we had not trouble finding space for both boats on the dock. However the restaurant was already closed for the season and the store was scheduled to close the next day.

And then the rain came….

Leaving Refuge Cove the next morning, the storm had passed and the sun was back

9/14/2024 With the rain and wind gone, we headed to Prideaux Haven. This is another very famous and favorite spot for many boaters and during high season can have fifty to one hundred boats anchored, stern-tied, and rafted throughout the cove. We have always avoided this spot during high season. This time of year it was perfect, almost empty and very enjoyable.

Legacy has some amazing lights. It is fun to see what the lights attract at night.

Successful fishing in this area

Successful crabbing also

After cleaning, we had two full pounds of crab! This went into an amazing crab linguine dinner.

9/16/2024 After two lovely nights in Prideaux Haven we moved on the Squirrel Cove on Cortes Island.

Very interesting trail signs in Squirrel Cove

Some very pretty forest between Squirrel Cove and Von Donop Inlet

It was a beautiful day for the two mile walk from Squirrel Cove to Von Donop Inlet

9/17/2024 We left Squirrel Cove and traveled south around the bottom of Cortes Island for a short stop at Manson’s Landing before continuing on to Gorge Harbour. Manson’s Landing is a very unique place with a large lagoon that dries at low tide and creates a perfect place to get clams and oysters. We stopped on the way in to hit the lagoon at low tide.

These black discs are all sand dollars!

It took about 15 minutes to get our limit on clams and oysters

We did half of the oysters on the half shell…and bbq’d the other half, but I didn’t slow down enough to photograph them

The clams were steamed with mushrooms, white wine, garlic, and herbs

This was another amazing meal in a beautiful location

Leftover clams were shucked and Suzy turned them into an amazing clam chowder

9/19/2024 It is time for Teri to head home so today we must go to Campbell River so that she can catch a flight. We had a great time visiting with Teri and I’m pretty sure she enjoyed herself. She is fully trained and checked out on many of Legacy’s systems now. I know Suzy will miss the extra hand during docking. We hope that Teri’s husband Brady will join us next summer for more adventures.
